Liverpool returned to training on Wednesday after being given the green light by the Premier League.
The coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed more than 35,000 lives in the UK, has suspended top-flight football in England since March 13.
But the Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ proposal aims to resume matches on June 12.
Ahead of its impending return, clubs have reopened their training grounds to get their players back up to speed – with strict social distancing guidelines in force.
Liverpool shared a video of their players training in small groups and adhering to the rules in place, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk seen being put through their paces.
Firmino caught most people’s attention with his 1980s style hair, which has been likened to a young Ross Geller from Friends!
Mane’s hairstyle has also changed somewhat during the lockdown…
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted returning to Melwood was like a ‘first day at school’, while insisting his players were in good spirits.
He told the club’s official website: “The morning started already really well – I woke up even earlier than usual, and then I realised it is my first day.
“It felt like the first day at school, for me, it was 46 years ago, but it must have been similar. I dressed myself in my uniform again – and for the right reason, for going to training.
“I drove to Melwood and was really happy to see all the boys. I didn’t see all the boys yet, I only saw 10 of them and the coaches, which is a good start.
“They all look in good spirits. The weather is brilliant here.
“Melwood is prepared for us, all one-way roads through the whole area and everything is prepared and set.
“We are ready to go and it was really nice to be back.”
Liverpool players were all smiles on their return, and defender Dejan Lovren poked fun at star forward Salah.
After Salah had tweeted his delight at being back, Lovren replied, with a picture of the forward driving, saying: “Yeah but with a broken window.”
