The Champions League winners return to Anfield tonight for their first home match of this year’s competition.
Liverpool were beaten 2-0 against Napoli in their first match of the group stage so are in need of a win.
Red Bull Salzburg are the side up next for the Reds and they have already made a name for themselves this year.
The Austrian side thrashed Genk 6-2 with wonderkid Erling Braut Haaland netting a hat-trick.
Around 50 scouts were thought to be at that game to watch how the young Norwegian striker got on and they would have left impressed.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to get their title defence back on track with three points against the Austrian Bundesliga champions.
It is just the second time in their history that Salzburg have made it through to the Champions League group stages but they have already made a big impression.
How Liverpool could line-up to face Salzburg
Joel Matip will miss out after picking up an injury against Sheffield United and he may not be risked for the match.
Liverpool have a more than adequate replacement in Joe Gomez who can slot in next to Virgil Van Dijk.
Xherdan Shaqiri remains sidelined with a calf injury and will also not play.
“Both not available. It is not a big one (for Matip) but it is big enough. We don’t want to take any risks,” said manager Jurgen Klopp, who could not say at this stage whether Matip would be fit for Saturday’s visit of Leicester.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who has been sidelined since the first match of the season with a calf injury, has a chance of making a return on Saturday, although a comeback against Manchester United after the international break looks more likely.
“There are two opinions. One is Ali’s opinion and the other is the medical department,” said Klopp.
“We have to wait, I think, so we have to see. Training is going really well but it was a serious injury and we don’t want to take a chance.
“Tomorrow, no chance, and then we have to see for Leicester. United game, probably 100 per cent.”
How Red Bull Salzburg could line-up against Liverpool
Erling Braut Haaland is a doubt because of illness and is in a race against time to be ready for the match.
Sekou Koita will be likely to replace Haaland if the striker is not fit but the Mali international is also in fine form with four goals in six games.
Salzburg will be without Antoine Bernede as the midfielder was stretchered off in their cup win against Rapid Wien and he suffered a broken shin bone.
