Manchester United have handed out an indefinite ban, pending an appeal, to the fan who allegedly racially abused Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold on Sunday.
The supporter was escorted out of United’s home ground Old Trafford by stewards after claims he shouted ‘you f****** black c***’ at the 21-year-old right back.
United instantly trawled through CCTV footage and launched an investigation to identify the supporter.
Collating and then comparing data against their season ticket database, the club identified the supporter and have written to inform him of their decision to ban him.
The fan can appeal the ban, which is currently indefinite.
It is understood the fan was located close to the players’ executive boxes in the Stretford End, with the incident taking place in the first half.
The supporter’s sickening outburst was met with a furious reaction from those close by, with Greater Manchester Police since being made aware of the situation.
A Manchester United spokesperson said: “Racism and all forms of discrimination are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our club.
“Following our investigation into the alleged incidence of racist abuse on Sunday, we have issued an indefinite ban to the individual involved.
“This individual is not welcome at Old Trafford and we want to reinforce that we will continue to take strong action against anyone who we identify has engaged in racist or discriminatory abuse, either online or at our matches.”
Old enemies United and Liverpool played out a tense game with Marcus Rashford giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men the lead but Adam Lallana’s late goal saw it finish 1-1.
