David de Gea is a doubt for Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool after picking up a muscle injury on international duty.
The United goalkeeper appeared to tweak a hamstring while taking a goal kick during the second half of Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifier with Sweden on Tuesday night.
Spain took no chances with De Gea and he was taken off straight away.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to offer an update on his fitness on Wednesday.
They face current league leaders Liverpool who possess a potent front three in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane and Solskjaer will be desperately hoping his star goalkeeper will be fit, with United on a woeful run of form.
If De Gea is not able to play in the match then Sergio Romero will take his place in the starting XI.
De Gea only recently signed a new long term contract with the Red Devils following months of speculation over his future.
The Spaniard had entered the final 12 months of his current deal but a deal was able to be struck for a four-year extension.
He is in his ninth season with United and has racked up 371 appearances in all competitions.
While United could be without their number one this weekend, Liverpool are set to welcome back their star goalkeeper Alisson.
The Brazilian has been sidelined since the opening day of the season but returned to full training ahead of the Old Trafford showdown.
