Manchester United’s woeful away from continued last night following their goalless stalemate with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

To be specific, you have to go back TEN games since United last won on their travels, which was the stunning Champions League turnaround when they beat Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc-des-Princes in March.

The last time they went on a run longer without an away win, was 11 matches between February and September 1989.

And to hammer home how bad they’ve been, it emerged that Bury, who beat Stevenage away last season en route to promotion, have won away from home more recently and they haven’t actually played this season, having been booted out of the EFL.

And thirty years on, they very well could match or surpass that, such is their inability to earn three points away from Old Trafford.

Since their win in France, United have failed to beat Arsenal, Wolves on three occasions, Barcelona, Everton, Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham.

If United want to end that run, they will have plenty of opportunities to do so in the coming weeks, as four of their next five matches will be away, starting with struggling Newcastle on Sunday.

After the international break, they host current league leaders Liverpool before travelling to Partizan Belgrade, Norwich and then a Carabao Cup tie with Chelsea.

Despite the lacklustre performance, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised his players for their efforts on the plastic pitch.

“It’s a good point away from home against good, difficult opponents, very difficult surface,” he said.

“They beat Feyenoord 3-0 away from home just now. We made many changes and I’m very pleased.

“Of course, it should’ve been a win – I am fed up of talking about penalties we should have had. Arsenal on Monday and now. That’s a penalty 101 times out of 100. You cannot make that decision wrong in football.”
