Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Dean Henderson to become Manchester United and England No.1

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Dean Henderson has developed into a ‘fantastic’ goalkeeper at Sheffield United.

The 23-year-old has impressed on loan at the Blades during the past two seasons, helping the club gain promotion from the Championship and climb to seventh place in the Premier League table.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for United, with David de Gea regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

However, Red Devils boss Solskjaer believes Henderson will be Manchester United‘s and England‘s No.1 in the future.

He told Sky Sports: “Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically.

“We’re looking at that in terms of where he’s going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.

“This season has proved a great experience for him, he’s done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England’s No.1 and Man United’s No.1 at some point.

“It’s not my job to keep the players happy or in the team or out of it. Part of it is their responsibility of performing and doing well.

“Dean has made some great choices over the years and developed fantastically – and still is.”

Sheffield United have reportedly agreed a deal with the Red Devils to keep Henderson for the remainder of the season.

The coronavirus pandemic will see Premier League matches played beyond June 30, the date his loan deal expires.

Only Nick Pope (11) has kept more top-flight clean sheets than Henderson (10) this season.
