Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to get drawn into commenting too much on a Twitter rant against him by Paul Pogba’s agent on Monday night.
Mino Raiola, who represents the unsettled Manchester United midfielder, hit out at comments made by Solskjaer on Pogba’s future – the Norwegian saying “Paul is our player and not Mino’s.”
The super-agent opted to make his views heard minutes before the start of Man United’s Premier League trip at home to Chelsea.
Raiola tweeted: “Paul is not mine and for sure not Solskjaer’s property, Paul is Paul Pogba’s. You cannot own a human being already for a long time in the UK or anywhere else.
“I hope Solskjaer do[sic] not want to suggest that Paul is his prisoner.
“But before Solskjaer makes comments about things I say he should inform himself better about the content of what has been said.
“I am a free citizen who can think and express my thoughts. Until now I was maybe too nice to him. Solskjaer should just remember things that he said in the summer to Paul.
“I think Solskjaer may be frustrated for different reasons and is now mixing up some issues. I think that Solskjaer has other things to worry about. At least if I was him I would.”
However, it didn’t affect Man United on the pitch as they ran out 2-0 winners to breathe new life into their quest to finish in the Champions League spots.
Solskjaer was asked about Raiola’s tweet after the game but refused to get bogged down in the spat.
He said: “I don’t have to comment through the media on Mino and what he says. I can probably speak to him myself, so…”
But when asked if he would speak to Raiola directly, Solskjaer admitted he ‘probably wouldn’t.’
Solskjaer then added: “You can’t control it anyway, everyone’s got a voice and you can have your own opinion.
“There are things being said about us where you want to comment but you’d rather not and it’s more clever that you don’t comment on many different things.
“It’s not my rapport and Paul and Mino do have their conversations but it’s fine.”
Pogba has only featured for the Premier League giants eight times this season, with his last appearance coming on Boxing Day, as a persistent foot injury has kept him out of action.
The Frenchman is still at Old Trafford, despite speaking of his desire to seek a ‘new challenge’ last summer. The main clubs linked with him are Real Madrid and Juventus.
