As Liverpool fans partied in the streets outside Anfield, the players went nuts in their hotel as the Premier League title was finally won on Thursday night.
Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City saw the Reds crowned champions for the first time in 30 years, sparking wild celebrations from players and fans alike.
Although it was only a matter of time, with one more win needed from their last seven games, the players watched on nervously as the Blues hosted City.
Kevin De Bruyne threatened to delay the inevitable with a stunning free-kick to cancel out Christian Pulisic’s opener.
But when Fernandinho was sent off for handball on the line, Willian stepped up to send Liverpool’s players into delirium.
Footage captured from their Merseyside hotel showed the players anxiously watching the spot-kick before going berserk when it hit the back of the net.
Ironically, the 2015/16 title was also won at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea grabbed a 2-2 draw with Tottenham to send the title to Leicester – and the hotel scenes mirrored those at Jamie Vardy’s house that night.
Of course, the players were required for various media duties, but that wasn’t going to stop the celebrations.
Virgil van Dijk saw his interview hijacked by his teammates as he spoke to BT Sport, with chants of ‘Champeones’ ringing around the room.
But nobody partied harder than Jamie Carragher, who popped open a bottle of champagne during his interview with Reds skipper Jordan Henderson on Sky Sports.
Carragher asked Henderson: “Jordan, you’re a great professional – but tell me you’re going to get absolutely rotten tonight like me!”
