Gary Neville was full of praise for Phil Foden for his part in Manchester City’s 4-0 drubbing of Liverpool on Thursday night.
In fact, the former Manchester United defender suggested Foden had made Andy Robertson play like ‘he had a week on the lash’.
The newly-crowned Premier League champions arrived at the Etihad having dethroned Pep Guardiola’s side last week.
Victory over Crystal Palace and City’s defeat to Chelsea ensured the title was heading to Anfield for the first time in 30 years.
Although Mohamed Salah admitted some members of the squad had wanted City to beat Chelsea to keep the title race alive, the celebrations were as vibrant as if they had wrenched the title from the Citizens themselves.
In fact, City were so good at home, Neville even suggested they had partied a tad too hard.
After the exceptional Foden added City’s third of the evening by running rings around Robertson, the Sky Sports pundit felt obliged to heap praise on the England Under-21 international while defending the usually diligent Robertson.
“Well I mentioned [Andy] Robertson,” Neville said on commentary. “And he has been outstanding for Liverpool for the last two seasons.
“But he has been playing tonight like he has had a week on the lash, so unlike him.
“I talked about getting drawn into spaces; he just has to hold his nerve, he’s rushing out and getting played around.”

Fans were so surprised by the usually faultless defender that he was even trending on Twitter during and after the game.
For the 20-year-old Foden, though, he continues to go from strength to strength and has been directly involved in 13 goals in his last 17 appearances altogether and looks like a ready-made replacement for the outgoing David Silva.
Since the restart in fact, he has scored as many goals as Liverpool have.
