Anthony Martial strengthened Manchester United’s bid for Champions League football with his first senior hat-trick in the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over fellow top-four chasers Sheffield United.
Returning to Old Trafford with Paul Pogba starting alongside Bruno Fernandes for the first time, United gave an exciting glimpse of their full potential with a dominant display against the Blades.
Chris Wilder’s visitors struggled to get anywhere near their hosts as Pogba and Fernandes ran the show, while Martial delivered an exhibition in clinical finishing.
At the other end of the table, there weren’t as many goals but there was just as much significance, with relegation battlers Aston Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth all in action.
The Canaries hopes of survival are surely over after they were condemned to a 1-0 victory at home to Everton, thanks to Michael Keane’s 55th minute strike.
Bournemouth also plunged into deeper trouble by losing 1-0 at Wolves, with Raul Jimenez grabbing the only goal of the game to keep the hosts’ hopes of Champions League football alive.
So it will be a point gained for Aston Villa, who stole a 1-1 draw from Newcastle as Ahmed Elmohamady cancelled out Dwight Gale’s opener.
