Serge Gnabry’s incredible four-goal haul against Tottenham stunned everyone in the footballing world – none more so than his former manager Tony Pulis.

The former Arsenal winger tore Spurs apart on his return to north London as the Bundesliga champions ran riot with a comprehensive 7-2 victory in the Champions League.

Tottenham fan calls in sick to work after Spurs’ 7-2 loss to Bayern Munich

Gnabry’s performance on Tuesday saw him become only the 11th player to receive a 10/10 rating from French newspaper L’Equipe, who are notoriously stingy in their marking.

Gnabry’s showing was all the more amazing given his remarkable career which has taken him from West Brom outcast to Bayern Munich and Germany star.

The forward was famously written off by Pulis as not being good enough to play at The Hawthorns after joining the Baggies on loan from Arsenal in the summer of 2015.

Gnabry struggled during his time in the Midlands, playing only 12 minutes of Premier League football and making a further two starts in the League Cup.

Unsurprisingly, he was ditched in January 2016 and sent back to Arsenal – and he failed to make another appearance all season.

Pulis was watching Gnabry’s showstopping performance on Tuesday night and admitted being stunned at what he was seeing in north London.

And the ex-Baggies chief also provided some insight on Gnabry’s failure at West Brom, revealing why he hardly ever featured for the club.

“You could knock me over with a feather,” Pulis told Sky Sports. “I’m amazed. We had him at West Brom, we took him on loan and we could never get him fit.

“He even got taken off in an Under-21 game and he went back to Arsenal and they sold him on.

“He was a nice kid, I didn’t mind him at all and he’s really fulfilled his potential.

“To have him at West Brom and seeing him do what he’s done is absolutely amazing.

“When people show what they can really do and knuckle-down and become so good as he’s done it’s absolutely fantastic.”

One year after beginning his ill-fated loan at West Brom, Gnabry would leave Arsenal to join Werder Bremen, and the following summer he was signing for Bayern Munich and moving to Hoffenheim on loan.

Since returning to the Allianz Arena at the start of last season, the 24-year-old has been named Bayern’s 2019 Player of the Year and become a regular international for Germany.
