Cole’s signing does not necessarily indicate Jamison Crowder is on his way out the door. Cole has the ability to line up outside while Crowder remains in the slot, meaning the two can co-exist in New York’s offense.
With that being said, Crowder’s future with Gang Green looks bleaker now than it did at the beginning of free agency. The option to cut Crowder and sign JuJu Smith-Schuster is now off the table, but there is still a chance Douglas opts to select a receiver early in the 2021 NFL draft. Such a move would indicate a desire to get younger at the position, leaving Crowder on the outside looking in as a potential cap casualty.
Crowder has been the Jets’ most consistent wide receiver the last two seasons and would add plenty of value to New York’s passing attack in 2021. The cupboard is a bit more crowded now that Cole is on board, though, and it could fill up further to the point where Crowder is ultimately shown the door.
