Tottenham fans were in high spirits last night following their team’s 5-0 rout of Red Star Belgrade – but talkSPORT host Jason Cundy was not having it from one supporter when he called into the Sports Bar after the match.

Spurs got back to winning ways in the most convincing fashion, securing their first Champions League victory of the season courtesy of braces from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, as well as Erik Lamela’s lone strike.

It was just their second win in eight matches, and whether this was a one-off or truly sparks a comeback remains to be seen – starting on Sunday when Mauricio Pochettino takes his side to Liverpool in the Premier League.

What was this for Tottenham – a rare win, or their return to brilliance?

Tottenham’s form throughout the whole of 2019 has been woeful, with their run to last season’s European Cup final masking real issues behind the scenes in north London.

This campaign has brought those issues to the fore, and doubts have been cast over the future of Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

Failing to get Spurs out their rut could cost the Argentine his job, and he will hope beating Red Star is the start of a new period of dominance.

And one Tottenham supporter, Liam, phoned talkSPORT after Tuesday’s match to insist the win proves the north Londoners have only been going through a blip.

Jason Cundy, the former Chelsea defender and Sports Bar co-host, could not believe what he was hearing from Liam, however, and became increasingly exasperated during their must-listen argument.

“I think with the result tonight, you see it is just a blip and a bad run of form,” Liam began.

“When you can turn it on like that and play football like that, I don’t see it from any other teams apart from Man City and Liverpool.

“That’s the difference between us and your Chelseas and Man Uniteds.

“I’m not getting carried away, but the fact you can play like that goes to show it is just a blip.”

Cundy’s first response was relatively reserved, saying: “I’m speechless. You’re saying this is what sets Spurs apart from who?”

Liam replied: “From your Arsenals and Man United; they can’t turn it on like that. They can’t play football like that.

“I don’t remember an Arsenal performance like that. I don’t remember a Man United performance where they turned it on like that.”

Jason then quickly turned it up to 11, going in hard on Liam during an incredible rant.

He started: “You’re beating your chest about a result against a side who had to QUALIFY for this year’s Champions League!

“Liam, have you forgotten what happened at the weekend [vs Watford]? Have you forgotten what happened on the south coast against Brighton? Have you forgotten what happened against Colchester? Have you forgotten what happened against Leicester? Have you forgotten what happened against Olympiakos? Have you forgotten what happened against Bayern Munich?

“What’s wrong with you?”

When Liam asked if Cundy thinks other teams don’t have blips, Jason replied: “Blips! I just named seven blips!”

“You’ve told us it’s a blip. How do you know it’s a blip? You’ve just guessed that.

“Honestly you’re deluded Liam. You’ve seen a performance for 90 minutes that’s totally erased some of the dreadful performances, and you’ve phoned up here and had the gall to pull Chelsea out and have a pop at them, and Arsenal and Man United.

“What’s wrong with you? Have you taken stupid pills at the new stadium or what?”
