Unai Emery was in no mood to discuss Mesut Ozil’s continued exile from the Arsenal team.

Following the club’s 3-2 Europa League win against Vitoria, which saw the midfielder excluded, Ozil has now been left out of the last five games, but the manager would not be drawn on the continued ostracism of the club’s highest earner.

The Gunners had fallen 1-0 and then 2-1 behind and some fans decided to send a message to Emery by singing: “We’ve got Ozil, Mesut Ozil, I just don’t think you understand.”

It seemed as though relations between player and boss were slightly strained on Wednesday afternoon when the duo were pictured having an extended conversation on the training ground.

“Tonight is not the day to speak about that,” Emery said of the decision to sideline Ozil.

“I prefer to speak about the match. We have all the players who played. He’s not in the squad. That is the decision tonight. Now we are going to work towards Sunday.”

Ozil last played for Arsenal in September when the club beat Nottingham Forest 5-0.
