Tottenham conceded SEVEN goals in a home match for the first time in any major competition as they suffered a woeful 7-2 defeat against Bayern Munich.
And it was former Arsenal man Serge Gnabry who was their tormentor in chief – his FOUR goals in the second half making it a truly horrible night for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
The Premier League side got off to a great start when Heung-min Son fired his effort past Manuel Neuer.
However, the Bundesliga giants hit back shortly after with an excellent long-range effort from Josh Kimmich.
Robert Lewandowski’s well-taken strike gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at half-time.
After the break, Spurs’ defence collapsed and two goals in quick succession for Gnabry put them 4-1 up.
Harry Kane’s penalty restored brief respect to the scoreline but then Gnabry added another two in the 83rd and 88th minutes – his fourth a brilliant effort from outside the box.
Lewandowski also scored another in between those goals.
The result leaves Spurs third in Group B behind leaders Bayern, who have six points, and second place Red Star Belgrade.
Manchester City were the other Premier League team in action on Tuesday and they had a much better time than Spurs.
However, Pep Guardiola’s men were made to work very hard for their victory at home to Dinamo Zagreb.
The breakthrough finally came for City in the 66th minute with a goal from substitute Raheem Sterling.
Phil Foden added another in stoppage-time to seal the 2-0 win.
Real Madrid’s 2019/20 campaign suffered another huge setback after they could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to Club Brugge.
The 13-time winners found themselves 2-0 down at half-time with Emmanuel Bonaventure bagging both goals.
Zinedine Zidane’s men fought back and goals from Sergio Ramos and Casemiro ensured the spoils were shared.
But this will feel like two points dropped for the Spanish side following their 3-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain on matchday one.
Here are all the results from a dramatic night of Champions League action…
