Mark Bosnich says Manchester United have to give Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer more time to turn things around at Old Trafford, just as Jurgen Klopp was when he was first appointed Liverpool manager.

The fierce rivals go head-to-head in their latest grudge match this weekend, and the void between the teams could not be more obvious with Solskjaer feeling the heat in the United hotseat.

Liverpool are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table after winning all eight of their opening games of the season.

United, meanwhile, sit in 12th place and three points above the relegation zone after winning just twice, and have suffered a further blow ahead of Sunday’s Old Trafford clash with both David de Gea and Paul Pogba ruled out through injury.

Another defeat – with Liverpool overwhelming favourites – would pile more pressure on Solskjaer, with some fans already turning on the club legend despite hailing his permanent appointment seven months ago.

But Bosnich has urged for patience with the new boss, saying he should be afforded the same time to turn around the club’s fortunes as Liverpool gave Klopp when he was appointed four years ago.

Speaking on Thursday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, for former United goalkeeper said: “They haven’t had a good start, we know that, there’s a lot of pressure on Ole Gunner Solskjaer and the whole club.

“There’s a lot of talk from Manchester United fans about whether Solskjaer should stay or go, but you’ve got to have some patience.

“What are they going to do, just keep sacking managers year-in, year-out? You’ve got to give the man a go!

“Jurgen Klopp has had four years at Liverpool, and it hasn’t even been a year since Ole was appointed – you’ve got to give him time!”

Liverpool are chasing two records ahead of the Old Trafford clash, where victory would equal the best ever start to a Premier league season – nine wins in a row – as well as Manchester City’s record winning run of 18 victories on the trot.

But Bosnich has warned Liverpool not to take their rivals too lightly, despite their poor start to the campaign.

“It’s always a massive game against Liverpool and hearing that two of their players are out is not great, but Manchester United when they’ve got their backs to the wall can be very, very dangerous,” he added.

“No one is giving them a chance in hell, but they’ve got a very good record against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

“Liverpool are going great guns, but they’re away from home and it’s after the international break, which can throw the chips in the air, so you never know.”
