Rochdale have closed their stadium because of an ’emergency incident’, the League One club have confirmed.
Police have closed off roads nearby the Crown Oil Arena and all members of staff have been safely evacuated from the ground.
A statement from Rochdale read: “The club can confirm we have had to shut the stadium due to a police incident.
“All of the staff have been safely evacuated and the situation is now in the hands of Greater Manchester Police #RAFC.”
A spokesman from Greater Manchester Police then said: “We have been called to a report of a suspect package and we are currently in the process of assessing it.
“As a precaution some residents nearby have been evacuated.”
A bomb disposal lorry was then pictured arriving at the ground, with the images appearing on the website of the Manchester Evening News.
The Dale are currently 18th in League One, having picked up just 10 points from their first 10 games and their latest loss coming against Wycombe Wanderers last weekend.
However, they came agonisingly close to upsetting Manchester United in the Carabao Cup earlier this month.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s side took Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men all the way to penalties but were eventually defeated in the shootout.
